“Well, obviously, the frustration continues,” first-year coach Norm Chow said at a news conference Monday in Honolulu. “If you’re a stat guy, which I’m not, you can see that the numbers were all in our favor. We ran 93 offensive plays. We outgained them. We had better possession time, but the turnovers just kill us. We got five off of them, but we gave five right back. They capitalized; we didn’t. So we keep fighting and we keep working. I don’t know what else to do. We don’t panic. I’m not gonna change quarterbacks. I have a quarterback and I intend to stay with this quarterback, I don’t care what anybody says.” …
Schroeder has started all seven games, completing 126 of 245 for 1,284 yards, nine touchdowns, and eight interceptions. …
The Warriors can even the all-time series with Fresno State at 22-22-1 with a victory in their fourth road game in six weeks, but they’ll have to overcome what would appear to be a statistical mismatch. UH is 0-4 on the road, where it allows 47.5 points per game. Fresno has averaged 50 points in going 4-0 at home.
With quarterback Derek Carr leading the way, the Bulldogs rank in the top 20 in total offense (19th) and passing (14th). Carr is 10th in passing at 307.3 yards per game. Cornerback Phillip Thomas leads the country with seven interceptions.

Notes: Standout Emily Hartong earned league and national player of the week honors after carrying the Rainbow Wahine on a two-game California road trip last weekend. The junior outside hitter combined for 63 kills on 158 swings (.297 hitting percentage) with 31 digs as UH upped its conference winning streak to 67 with wild victories against Long Beach State (24-26, 34-32, 26-24, 25-22) and Cal Irvine (25-21, 22-25, 19-25, 25-22, 15-10). Hartong is averaging a league-best 4.60 kills per set as UH tops the Big West in hitting percentage (.268) and kills per set (14.19)…
Middle blockers Jade Vorster (.382) and Kalei Adolpho (.339) have complemented Hartong well, ranking Nos. 1-2, respectfully, in the league in hitting percentage …
The ’Bows are in command of the Big West, leading second-place Santa Barbara by four games with six matches left, but they still have work to do in order to host first- and second-round matches at the NCAA tournament. UH ranks No. 18 in this week’s RPI, and it would likely need to win out and get help to crack the top 16. …
Earlier this season in California, UH swept Santa Barbara and beat Poly in four sets.

The Rainbow Warriors return four players from last year’s 16-16 squad, led by preseason all-Big West center Vander Joaquim. The native of Luanda, Angola, led UH in scoring (14.3), rebounding (9.5), field goal percentage (.560) and blocks (58) last season. The other returning started is senior wing Hauns Brereton.
SOCCER
Sophomore midfielder Krystal Pascua of Waipahu, Oahu, was named second-team all-Big West on Thursday after scoring four goals and three assists as the Rainbow Wahine finished the season 8-9-3 and tied for sixth in the Big West at 3-5-1. …
Sophomore Tiana Fujimoto (team-high eight goals) and junior fullback Chelsea Miyaki were honorable mention selections for UH, which went 0-1-1 on a season-ending road trip last week to miss out on the program’s first winning season since 2008. The eight wins are Hawaii’s most in three seasons.
